Don’t think you can have it all?

February 19, 2015 By: In: Personal Growth

Do you feel like the work you’ve put in to those years of school isn’t paying off? Are you in debt, trading time for dollars and feeling like you’re trapped in a hamster wheel?

I did. And if that sounds like you, it doesn’t have to be the case.

You can have it all.

I 100% believe that anyone can.

You can make a ton of money with a career or business you absolutely love, while having the time to travel, spend with people you love, and experience the things you desire.

“You have the power to change your worth.”

The Internet has changed the game. Now more than ever, ONE person can make a difference. One person can create massive change. One person can create his or her dreams, and inspire others to do the same.

So why doesn’t everyone do it?

Change is hard.

Humans are programmed to resist change. Instinctually, our limbic system is hardwired to panic when something’s, um, different. “Fitting in” is so much easier.

Do me a favor. Interlock your hands, overlapping one finger on top of the other. Now, put the other hand on top. How does that feel?

WEIRD, right?

Change is uncomfortable. By nature, we don’t like it. In fact, we resist it. We want to go straight back to the other hand on top.

I’ve feared change most of my life. It’s what made me want to go do the “expected” thing – push hard to get good grades to have a career in medicine and live in the suburbs (I call it the “white-coat, white-picket fence path”).

For many, that’s fantastic. It’s a HUGE achievement, don’t get me wrong. I’m honored to have friends with whom I studied and are now doctors and lawyers. But as I moved through the process, I felt my soul getting sucked out of me. I was Sirius Black, laying on the ground, surrounded by Dementors.

I yearned for life. For invigoration. For leadership. For change.

Yet, my primal brain kept resisting.

Not anymore.

Breaking out of my “play-it-safe” mindset has been a process, taking years to unwire and reprogram some engrained patterns. But now, after lots of thought, trial and error, and daily triumph over fear, I continue to design and execute my dream life.

My point isn’t to tell you what to do or how to do it, it’s that I simply want you to know YOU have control over your life. Live it how you choose.

Leave a comment below telling me what having it all means to you, and if you feel like you’re on the path you desire.
